Coed 6's Volleyball Tournament Rules

Behavior & Conduct

  1. Each player is required to display good sportsmanship, and respect to the staff and other players at all times.
  2. Rude, aggressive, vulgar language/behavior or being intoxicated may result in ejection from the game or tournament.


  1. All players must be 18 years old and over to play.
  2. Team rosters shall include a minimum of 6 players, including at least 3 female players.
  3. There does not have to be an equal number of male and female, but at no time can there be more than 3 men on the court.
  4. If a team is short players, they must consider it a ghost position and will lose their serve when the missing player's spot comes up in the serving rotation.


  1. Games are player-reffed. If you have a disagreement about a call-replay the point. All other general volleyball rules apply unless specified differently in this rulebook. 
  2. Molten Flistatec Classic volleyballs will be provided for rec division. Teams may use their own ball ONLY if both captains agree. If either captain opposes, the provided volleyball shall be used for all sets. For competitive division, please agree on a ball before the match starts.


  1. Teams comprised of 3 guys and 3 girls will alternate in rotation/serving order.
  2. JUMP SERVING is not allowed in Recreational Coed 6's (unless BOTH captains agree to allow it before the match starts)
  3. Teams who receive first serve, must rotate to their first server on the first side out.
  4. You may set the serve.
  5. NO BACK ROW BLOCKERS. When your team is in a rotation with one male in the front row, you CAN NOT bring a male player from the back row to help him block.
  6. There is no 'girl rule' (a female player is not required to touch the ball during a multi-contact rally)
  7. The ball must be cleanly hit. Any part of the body may be used. 
  8. Any contact with the net during a play is a violation. Please call your own violations.
  9. No crossing the center-line (under the net).
  10. Pursuit rule for safety - You are allowed to play a ball all the way up to another court. If you step onto another court before, during, or after you contact the ball, it is a DEAD BALL and point for the opposing team. The exception is if there is nobody on the adjoining court.
  11. Balls may be played off of the basketball hoop/ceiling on your own side only.


  1. Any team not ready to play within 10 minutes of the posted start time will forfeit the match.
